1 Art Linen
This term covers a number of fabrics made from flax yarns in plain weave, and applied to such purposes as cushion covers, tablecloths and centres, and embroidery work. Generally white, ecru or tan shades, but many colours are now being shown. The fine plain weave linens are also used for dress purposes. Numerous qualities, widths and weaves arc included in the term. A sample of plain weave art linen is made as follows: - 39-in. reed 700 40-in. scale, 20's lea warp and weft, 7 shots on 37/200 glass, and weighs 5 • 9-oz. per yard. -

3 Art Muslin
A general term used for most fine cotton fabrics used in the upholstery trade. The varieties include both dyed and printed styles and all are glazed finish. -
4 Art Shades
A term used by drapers for the intermediate shades of dyed effects which are paler than the ordinary range of colours. -
5 Art Square
A general drapery term for a great variety of small rugs. -
6 Art Ticking
A term that has lately been given to ordinary bed ticking when printed designs have been added. Widths about 56-in., 64-in., and 72-in. The satin weave is mostly used with a warp face, such as 72-in., 84-ends, 52 picks, 22's / 14's. The ordinary ticking is usually woven with a warp yam heavier than the weft. -
7 Art Silks
ARTIFICIAL SILKS, "Art Silks"The term "silk" was at first applied to fabrics made of "artificial silk" but these yarns are synthetically produced and arc not silks at all. As the term "Rayon" is now being used to distinguish these manufactured yarns, a fairly complete list of the better known is given under "Rayon". -
